The Bertram Chain of Lakes Regional Park, located in Monticello Township, Minnesota, attracts more than 800 visitors a day on summer weekends. Wright County Parks & Recreation is embarking on a $3.15 million project to develop camping sites.
Nelson-Rudie was hired by Weidner’s Mechanical Contractors for the mechanical design of the initial park project, a new contact station and comfort station. The contact station is approximately 1,900 square feet and will be occupied and operated year-round. The building includes a front desk, lobby, storage room as well as two restrooms, a private shower room and mechanical/electrical support space. The comfort station, occupied seasonally, is approximately 1,500 square feet and includes three restrooms, a family restroom, five private shower rooms and mechanical/electrical support space.
With intricate design restraints due to the mixed uses of the buildings and desire to minimize the visibility of mechanical ductwork to the guests, much thought was put into the design of ventilation and air conditioning systems serving these buildings. Nelson-Rudie engineered the plumbing and mechanical systems to precisely fit the specific needs of the buildings, its occupants and the owner’s requests.
The new camping facilities also include six camper cabins and 44 traditional campsites.
