The Burnsville Ice Center provides a year-round indoor skating recreation center for skating lessons, hockey and public skating.
Nelson-Rudie provided structural, mechanical and electrical design services on this $4.5 million improvement project which included a complete remodel of the mechanical systems for the two-sheet ice arena to improve energy efficiency of the facility. One way this was accomplished was using a geothermal well system that consisting of 210 wells that were located at 15-foot centers with 200-foot boring depths which were used to increase the efficiency of the refrigeration system as well as the building heating and cooling systems. The remodel included the addition of a new ice/mechanical room, and the reconfiguration of the existing resurfacer room and ice melt pit and two exterior screened areas for the new mechanical units.
