Nelson-Rudie provided mechanical and electrical design services on Hennepin County Library System’s new $5.6 million public library in Excelsior, Minnesota. The new Excelsior Library replaces the former which has served the south Lake Minnetonka communities since 1965.
The 7,600-square foot brick building includes public meeting rooms, computers, areas for public art displays and outdoor reading space. The new public library is double in size of the former to meet the demands of increased visitors as the building is located adjacent to the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail.
Energy-efficient mechanical systems included a raised floor underfloor system, variable air volume air handling units, high efficiency condensing boilers and direct expansion cooling.
