What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
I think the most valuable lesson I’ve learned in my career so far is the importance of adapting and continuous learning. Having the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and industry trends is crucial for long-term success.
While I’ve only been out of school for a short period of time, I have already learned so much and I know that growth and learning will only progress as I continue my career.
What’s one industry trend you’re keeping your eye on?
One industry trend I’m keeping an eye on is sustainable engineering. As the world moves towards “going green,” there have been numerous design practices that have begun to reshape the industry. I think it provides an opportunity for innovative solutions and I’m excited to see how it continues to advance.
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies that might surprise us?
I don’t really have any cool hidden talents, but a few of my hobbies include pickleball, golfing, building legos, and hanging out with family and friends.
If you were a character in a movie or tv show, who would you be and why?
If I was a character in a movie or TV show, I would probably be any one of the Avengers just to experience for a day what it would be like to have powers and go on a crazy adventure to save the world.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received was from my father who explained to me that if you are perseverant, work diligently and efficiently you will do well in life. He also said don’t ever be afraid to ask questions, that is how you learn and gather information you need.
What’s your favorite part of your daily routine?
My favorite part of my daily routine is once I am all set up and rolling along in the morning is to grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat, it totally recharges me and keeps me focused and invigorated usually for the rest of the day.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and what would you ask them?
Albert Einstein strikes me as being a very intriguing historical figure, although I probably wouldn’t be able to relate to that genius brain and strike up a normal conversation over dinner, but if I could ask him what he thinks about AI and where does he see AI taking us, that could be interesting.
What’s a fun fact about you that not many people know?
Most people probably don’t know that I used to be a very avid runner in my late 30’s and early 40’s. I completed 29 marathons, including (2) Boston marathons. The Twin Cities marathon was always my favorite, though, because of the massive local support the runners get along the course, and the beautiful fall scenery along the way was a plus.

There is none and that is why I like it!

I have spent nearly my entire career working in the AEC industry. In fact, my entire family has worked in the industry at one time or another, primarily in construction. I enjoy learning about potential projects and watching them come to life.

What led you to this career?
My interest in the design and building industry began as a child watching my father work in the construction industry and continued as I worked part-time for a general contractor throughout high school and college. I went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I’d be a hockey player when I grew up.
What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
Spending time with my kids (and golfing, of course).
