Wunderlich-Malec New Manufacturing Facility

Nelson-Rudie was hired by Evans Freimuth Architects (now Wunderlich-Malec) to provide mechanical engineering services on Wunderlich-Malec’s new 47,000-square foot facility in Winslow, Maine. The new facility is comprised of manufacturing space connected to a two-story office warehouse.

The 30,000-square foot manufacturing floor is heated with in-floor hydronic piping. There is more than five miles of hydronic piping under the manufacturing floor, not including the headers or mains back to the boilers. Since the manufacturing facility completes a vast amount of welding, Nelson-Rudie added exhaust systems for each welding station. Makeup air units (MAU) were used to provide fresh air to the manufacturing floor and large industrial overhead fans used to circulate the air. Rooftop units (RTU) were used to heat the office and warehouse. Since this is a remote facility, propane is used as fuel for the RTUs, MAUs and boilers.

Since the completion of the project, Wunderlich-Malec acquired Evans Freimuth Architects. Wunderlich-Malec is one of the largest engineering companies in the United States and provides advanced engineering solutions for a variety of industries.
